Over ten years ago, I found myself where many parents do—helping my own children navigate the college admissions process. Like so many families, we quickly realized that much of the stress surrounding college wasn't just about getting accepted. It came from not fully understanding the process or knowing what mattered most.

My children worried that their classes weren't "good enough," wondered if they were doing enough activities, and felt overwhelmed by the uncertainty. The process seemed complicated, and it felt like every decision carried enormous weight.

Rather than letting anxiety take over, I began researching the process myself by reaching out to other counselors, visiting colleges, and attending local seminars related to essay writing, understanding admissions data, and more. This led me to successfully completing my certification in College Counseling as an Independent Educational Consultant through UCLA's program. Other parents began asking for help with their own children, and through word-of-mouth referrals, my college advising practice was born.

While working with students, we talked about their goals, interests, and strengths. We explored different academic pathways and researched colleges that would be a good fit—not just academically, but socially and personally as well. Instead of focusing on what they thought colleges wanted, they developed a clearer sense of who they were and what they wanted from their college experience.

By the time they were ready to apply, they weren't just submitting applications—they were making thoughtful, informed decisions about the next chapter of their lives. They felt confident because they understood their options and knew why they were choosing the schools on their lists. Watching that transformation made me realize how much I enjoyed guiding students through this important milestone.

As a former teacher, I've always believed that every student has unique strengths waiting to be discovered. Throughout my years in education, I learned that the best teaching isn't always about giving answers—it's about asking the right questions, listening carefully, and helping students build the confidence to learn and make informed decisions.

That philosophy shapes the way I work with every family today.

A big part of my job is about breaking down the application process into manageable steps for students and helping them stay organized and on schedule with each task. But I also see college admissions as much more than that. It's an opportunity for students to discover who they are, identify what matters to them, and build a path that reflects their goals and values. My role is to provide clarity in a process that often feels overwhelming, helping students make thoughtful choices, and present the most authentic version of themselves.

Every student's journey is different, and there is no single "right" path to success. Whether a student is just beginning high school or preparing to submit college applications, I strive to make the process less stressful, more intentional, and ultimately more rewarding for both students and their families.
